Description
Circa 1903. This Victorian inn stands on nearly an acre in the historic Montford area of Asheville. The grounds have gardens, waterfalls and ponds with koi and lilies. Inside, hardwood floors, Oriental rugs and spacious light-filled rooms with fresh flowers create a serene ambiance perfect for relaxing. The inn has five guest bedrooms with fireplaces, Jacuzzis, TVs, CD players and VCRs. A three-course gourmet breakfast can be served bedside. Guests enjoy delightful offerings like a fresh fruit bowl, pineapple muffins and Belgian waffles with fresh blueberry sauce topped with whipped cream. Home-baked cookies and pastries are available throughout the day. Golfing, biking, horseback riding, hiking and white-water rafting are popular activities. Less rigorous pastimes include touring antique shops, art galleries and wineries. At Cumberland Falls is a full-service inn. Whether planning a day trip, providing for floral needs, in-room massage therapy or gift baskets, you only have to ask.
Location: City/Urban, Mountains, Near Biltmore Estates and Downtown. Inkeepers Notes
At Cumberland Falls has been operational as a bed and breakfast since March of 1998 and is on the Historic Registry. Conveniently located on a tree-lined street in Asheville's historic district, it is only 7 blocks from downtown Asheville and three miles from Biltmore Estates. Some of the finest cuisine in Asheville is located in the downtown area and is easily accessible from the inn. This Victorian, turn of the century home was built in 1902. It has been a private residence, a boarding house and a Bible repository. Perhaps one of its most interesting occupants was Michael Kelly. Born in County Roscommon, Ireland in August of 13008, he came to the United States in 1880 at the age of 22. Arriving in Asheville in 1886, he supervised the laying of the water and sewer pipes of this city. The similarity of Asheville to his native Ireland struck such a cord in the young man that he remained here marrying his wife Mary at the famous St. Lawrence Basilica in 1898. Asheville was his home until his death at 80. Much of the sewer system he worked on and supervised is still in place today.
